Turku - the European Capital of Culture
The city of Turku is the European Capital of Culture this year together with Tallinn. The Capital of Culture program is the EU’s most significant cultural initiative with great international attention value. Turku has always been the gateway welcoming innovative thinking and perspectives to Finland and offers discoveries and experiences for everyone.
The City plays host to Europe's second oldest rock festival "Ruisrock" and the more recently established urban festival "Down By the Laituri". The summer sets the backdrop for the Medieval Market, the Turku Music Festival and various events along the River Aura. The unique Scandinavian archipelago opens up where the river ends.
